Guruvayur temple is one of the famous temple in India and it’s dedicated to Guruvayurappan (Krishna a form of lord Vishnu). The temple located in Guruvayur, a town in Thrissur, Kerala. This is one of the major temples in Kerala. Devotees from various places in India used to visit the temple in every year.

 

Guruvayur Temple details

The idol of the Guruvayur temple is a four armed standing Vishnu, and in each hand carrying Panchajanya, sudarshana, Kaumodaki, lotus with tulasi garland. The idol which represents the form of Vishnu which revealed by Krishna to his parents Vasudeva and Devaki. Worship proceeds by according to the instruction of Adi Shankara and later it written in Tantric way. Chennas Ravinarayanan Nambudiri (1427-1527), and his descendants are the hereditary tantri’s of the Guruvayur Temple

The Temple is managed by Special administrative authority, it comes under the control of Government of Kerala. The main festivals of Guruvayur temples are Krishna Janmashtami, Guruvayur Ekadashi. There are other sub deities named Ganapati, Ayyappan and bhagavathi is also present inside the temple. All Non- Hindus are prohibited to enter inside the temple.

Guruvayur Temple Anakotta

The Punnathur Kotta (Anakotta) known as the house for elephants. Approximately 52 elephants belongs to this guruvayur temple. These elephants are donated by the devotees to the Guruvayurappan. Punnathur Kotta (Anakotta) comes around 11.5 acres of land to maintain these elephants. It is 3 kilometres from the guruvayur temple. Guruvayur Keshavan is the most famous elephant in all of these. The second most famous elephant is guruvayur padmanabhan

 

What is the dress code For guruvayur Temple?

Gruvayur Temple follows strict dress code for Temple visit.

Men should wear mundu (dhoti) and without covering chest or men can cover chest by small piece of cloth. Kids are allowed to wear shorts and they also can’t wear shirts.

For women and girls can’t wear short skirts. They can wear saree and shalwar (Churidar)

How to reach Guruvayur temple?

There are many ways to reach Guruvayur temple

By Road: you can come through by road and the devaswom provides plenty of spaces to park your vehicle.

By Bus: KSRTC or private bus stand are located within 1.5 kilometre distance. You have to take Guruvayur Bus to reach these Bus stands

By Train:  There are train services also available for to reach Guruvayur temple. You need to take Train from Thrissur (TCR) station to guruvayur (GUV)
